A
third-year student in the Joint Doctoral Program at Texas A&M
University-Kingsville, I retired from the U.S. Navy on
December 1,
2004 where my commissioned areas of expertise were surface warfare,
fleet support, and education and training management. My credentials
include a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas-Austin,
as well as Master of Science degrees in Educational Leadership and Management
from Troy State University. Just prior to leaving the Navy, I joined
the Texas A&M University-Kingsville team as Doctoral Research &
Teaching Assistant where my primary responsibilities have centered
on leading and teaching my own sections of the first-year course, The
Profession of Teaching, as well as assisting faculty in the coordination
and hosting of conferences, teaching graduate courses, and conducting original
research. My research interests include the assessment and development of emotional intelligence (EI)
in individuals through training and intervention
programs, as well as the psychometric properties of instruments used to assess
psychological constructs. My dissertation research is based on Nelson & Low's
(2003) education model of emotional intelligence and will develop
a new instrument
for assessing the EI-centric construct of personal excellence.
